What Is The Difference Between Trekking And Hiking
Space, the ultimate frontier. These are the voyages of the spaceship enterprise. Oh wait, that’s not the kind of trekking I’m talking about. The trek I’m referring to doesn’t involve Captain Kirk, the Vulcans, or Doctor McCoy telling everyone he’s a doctor and pretty much useless to everything else. The type of trekking I am referring to involves a very popular mode of human travel. Trekking is an increasingly popular way people use to travel through the wilderness to get from one point to another. You might be wondering if I’m really talking about hiking and I’m not. Hiking refers to the interaction with nature for pleasure and recreation. Trekking is considered a mode of travel without using a vehicle at all.
When people go on a hike they put on a backpack and either decide they are going to see a lot of wilderness or they have to get from point A to point B and they have decided that wanted to hike rather than take a bus or other form of mechanical transportation. Usually, trekking takes the person through incredible landscapes on their way from point to point and this is the attraction besides the obvious physical benefits of walking for miles instead of driving. This is the big difference between trekking and hiking. With hiking, you go out to explore nature for fun, but when you go hiking, you go out to reach a destination.
When you go hiking, you try to avoid urban situations. Many people think that people who go trekking are those who put on a backpack and just start walking from place to place to see the sights, meet the people and enjoy all that walking would have to offer. People who do a real trek are there to see nature. For many, they have made the decision to go to a town 20 miles away but prefer to walk there through nature rather than driving or even just walking along the roads to their destination. It is a total experience with nature but combined with a destination in mind.
In order to walk properly, you need to have other skills to help you through the wilderness. You need survival skills because living in a tent when you only have the food you can carry can sometimes become dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. You must have skills such as swimming, mountaineering, or rock climbing, and you must be agile enough to do things like climb trees and other natural challenges. It’s about arriving at your destination while enjoying the beauty and perils of the wilderness.
