Brooke Double R – Sports Car That Looks Like A Racer
The Brooke Double R slips into the group of small but incredibly fast sports cars. It was launched some time ago, but has been updated and improved by a few experienced engineers, and this nice little car is now in production. You get terrific acceleration and cornering for your money.
Performance is sensational and depends on how much power you want. The most powerful Brooke Double R – 300hp – has a claimed 0-60mph time of 3.2 seconds, while 260hp will get you to 60mph in under 4 seconds, and all the excitement that goes with this performance. To match it, you’ll need a Noble M400 or a Porsche 911 Turbo.
Clearly, the Brooke Double R is a real firecracker. The fact that the top speed is only around 155mph – the same speed that many supercars are electronically limited to – isn’t what it’s about. It’s the acceleration, braking and cornering that gives the real fun of fast driving, and you’ll get it here.
Most of these MPVs have front engines, but the Brooke Double R has a mid-mounted 2.3-litre Ford Cosworth engine, which produces 190, 260 or 300 bhp depending on your choice. It’s like a mini version of a mid-engined race car, just a bit wider to accommodate two people.

To approximate the ideal weight distribution, the engine is mounted fore and aft rather than across. There’s a neat pedal set with floor-mounted pedals – like on the best cars – and a simple molded seat.
You can either have a very low windshield or a bit higher. Both are still low with no room for the wipers – they’re really wind deflectors that you look down on. Pick the lowest and you’ll want a helmet at speeds over 75mph, despite the twin headrests.
Cosworth-Ford up to 300 hp
In choosing a Cosworth-Ford engine, Brooke opted for quality and ease of obtaining the parts needed for maintenance. Cosworth offers a range of tuned Ford engines, modified to give the necessary durability for power output, and as they are inline-four units they are compact.
The base model comes with 190 hp, then you can upgrade to 260 hp at 7,500 rpm with 200 lb-ft (271 lb-ft) of torque at 6,100 rpm, or you can opt for a total power with the unit 300 hp.
The suspension and steering are on classic lines, front and rear double wishbones, aerofoiled as they need to glide through the air, with aluminum alloy suspension uprights. Coil springs and adjustable shock absorbers are fitted front and rear.
Buy a Brooke Double R with 190hp and you’ll spend around $50,000 (£27,995), but if you want a maniacal, license-losing 300hp version you’ll have to shell out around $70,000 (£36,995) . This will help if you live where there is lots of sun and little rain!
